WE are seeking a Senior Medical Officer – Psychiatry to join the team.
Nundah Private Hospital is a 58-bed mental health hospital, offering admissions to patients aged 18yrs+ with special interest areas including veteran and Workcover patients. The inpatient programs are based in CBT and ACT principles, with specialised programs including Food, Mood and Body Image, PTSD, Dual Diagnosis, and OCD. The programs include group therapy, psychotherapy and EMDR. Allied health led sessions include psychology, social work, OT, exercise Physiologists and a gym program, dietician, music therapists and art therapists. The in-patient programs are supported with discharge planning into day programs, day intensive programs and community support via post-discharge transition guidance and hospital in the home.
The hospital has 15 VMO consultant psychiatrists working flexible hours and the role supports the patients admitted under the VMO’s.
The role of the SMO is to provide onsite clinic sessions in a biopsychosocial and cultural mental health model to patients in the private mental health care setting. These sessions undertake a number of routine tasks:
Deliver comprehensive mental health assessment and management to consumers in the inpatient care setting, while supporting the transition to outpatient and community care settings.
Oversee the physical health care of patients including regular metabolic monitoring.
Take and maintain responsibility of the above on behalf of credentialed Visiting Medical Officers (VMOs) with clinical accountability to the Consultant Psychiatrist (VMO) of the nominated patient and operationally to the Chief Executive Officer.
Ensure patients, families and staff are treated fairly and with mutual respect and understanding, regardless of cultural, religious, ethnic, and linguistic backgrounds.
Work within a multi-disciplinary team and with consumers and carers in the delivery of comprehensive clinical care.
Provide effective verbal and written communication and handover.
Other tasks nominated by the Nurse Unit Manager and senior nursing staff such as re-writing medication charts, scripts, review outside of the VMO scheduled appointments, discharge planning, and clinical notes.
