- Psychiatry Registrar
Description
Psychiatry Registrar, Private Practice (Sydney clinics and Telehealth)
An opportunity is available for a psychiatry registrar to join Mind Connections, an established private psychiatry and psychology practice in Sydney’s north-west, across our Carlingford and Norwest sites. Mind Connections has provided specialist mental health care for over 20 years, with a referral base of more than 2,500 GPs and strong ongoing patient demand.
This role offers something rarely available in hospital-based training: direct experience of private psychiatric practice, our clinical systems and our referral base, working alongside experienced consultant psychiatrists.
Strong support if private practice is new to you. Hospital training gives little exposure to how private psychiatry runs day to day. You work closely with experienced consultants, with regular case discussion and senior mentorship, and we take you through assessments, private billing, Medicare and our clinical systems, so you build real confidence in the setting rather than having to find your own way.
The role
You will:
• Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments. • Participate in ongoing patient management and review clinics. • Work collaboratively with consultant psychiatrists and our multidisciplinary team. • Liaise with GPs and other healthcare professionals. • Take part in regular supervision, case discussions and professional development. • Gain exposure to contemporary and interventional models of care.
What we offer
• A broad and stimulating clinical caseload, with experienced consultants close at hand. • Senior psychiatrist mentorship and guidance, especially if private practice is new to you. • Well remunerated, salaried position with superannuation and standard leave entitlements. • Predictable daytime hours. No on-call and no after-hours. Colleagues cover leave. • Full reception and administrative support, so your time stays clinical. • Exposure to interventional psychiatry, including TMS and esketamine. • Two sites at Carlingford and Norwest, with on-site parking, dedicated consulting rooms, modern clinical systems, secure telehealth, AI-assisted scribing and electronic prescribing. • A team of more than 10 psychiatrists and psychologists, with regular CPD-accredited peer review and GP education sessions.
Career pathway
This is a genuine entry point into private psychiatry. For registrars who perform well and share the values and culture of the practice, the role is designed to lead into an ongoing consultant position at Mind Connections on attainment of FRANZCP. You would step into an established practice, with colleagues, patients, referrers and systems you already know, rather than starting over.
Most psychiatry registrars never see the private side of the specialty until they are suddenly running it alone. Here you learn it now, as part of the team rather than an extra pair of hands, with senior consultants beside you and colleagues invested in where your career goes next.
Requirements
About you
• Current AHPRA registration as a medical practitioner, in good standing. • Progression through, or eligibility for, psychiatry training (RANZCP), or equivalent psychiatry experience. We welcome unaccredited and service registrars, doctors between accredited rotations, and specialist international medical graduates on the specialist pathway. • Sound clinical assessment skills and a commitment to evidence-based, patient-centred care. • Excellent communication and the ability to work well in a multidisciplinary team. • Based in Sydney and able to consult on-site at Carlingford and/or Norwest (telehealth also available).
