- Consultant Psychiatrist
Description
The Consultant Psychiatrist is a prison medical officer in accordance with the Prisons Act 1981 responsible for the psychiatric assessment, treatment, physical welfare and medical and psychiatric care for allocated patients within WA correctional facilities and:
- Supports the operational management, development and delivery of integrated best practice prison mental health services.
- Provides clinical expertise to the Director Health Services, and Director Medical Services related to mental health services.
- Recommends evidence-based improvements, clinical standards, considering best practice to achieve improved mental health outcomes and efficiencies as appropriate.
- Provides clinical input to mental health care operations and mental health needs analysis delivered by health operations.
- Reviews and recommends medical standards, clinical standards (including drug regimens) and evidence based clinical improvements.
- Leads and governs to deliver evidence-based high-quality prison-based specialist mental health care.
- Provides high level clinical and strategic leadership to prison mental health services, maintaining an expert awareness of industry research, trends, issues and developments in relation to mental health.
Job Requirements:
Successful applicants must provide evidence prior to commencement of their current Medical registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Consultant Psychiatrist and Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists.
