About Mental Health at Monash Health
The Mental Health program aims to deliver high quality mental health care to people living in the South Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne and is one of the largest mental health programs in Victoria delivering services across the lifespan.
The Mental Health Program is organised into the following and each has a designated Operations Director and Unit Director working in partnership together and have Operational Managers and local Team Managers across all services within the program:
Wellness and Recovery Centre (Eating Disorders Service).
Youth Mental Health Services.
Casey Adult Mental Health Services (Casey AMHS).
Dandenong Adult Mental Health Services (Dandenong AMHS).
Clayton Adult Mental Health Services (Clayton AMHS).
Early in Life Mental Health Services (ELMHS).
Monash Health Drug and Alcohol Services (MHDAS).
Agile Psychological Medicine Clinics, including Agile Complex Mood Clinics and Cognitive Processing Therapy Clinics for PTSD.
 
About the Role
The Monash Health Department of Mental Health is seeking a psychodynamically trained psychiatrist to supervise the Psychotherapy Written Case.
The position is 0.4 EFT beginning December 2025; lower fractions will also be considered. In keeping with RANZCP requirements, the supervisor must be a practitioner of psychodynamic therapy with at least two years of experience and supervision who has completed a relevant training program e.g., the Certificate of Advanced Training in Psychotherapies, or equivalent, and demonstrates ongoing professional development.
The supervisor should be a practitioner of psychodynamic psychotherapy, with knowledge of psychotherapeutic principles and practices, including the complex meanings behind symptoms, behaviours and motivations, the relevant effect of developmental trauma and dysfunctional relationships, the impact of life cycle events, indications and contraindications for psychodynamically-informed therapy, approaches to developing a therapeutic alliance in challenging circumstances, including the maintenance of professional boundaries, empathic person-centred listening skills, exploration of transference and countertransference and self-reflection.
Requirements
Responsibilities:
Supervise registrars’ Psychotherapy Written Case according to RANZCP guidelines.
Engage in three (formative) psychotherapy case discussions with each trainee during the therapy process.
Engage in three psychodynamic supervisor meetings per year.
Communicate outstanding training and progression issues and recommend remedial processes.
Be involved in the development and operationalizing the strategic direction for a high quality psychiatry training program.
Support JMS employees to ensure quality of psychiatry training.
 
What you need:
Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
Fellowship of the RANZCP or equivalent.
Working with Children's Check.
