The Department of Health Tasmania is seeking an outstanding clinical leader for the role of Statewide Specialist Director – Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS).
This is a prestigious opportunity to lead transformative mental health care for children and adolescents across Tasmania. As the Statewide Specialist Director – CAMHS, you will drive innovation, excellence, and strategic direction in service delivery, ensuring high-quality, consumer-centred care that meets the needs of our diverse communities.
Working in close partnership with the Group Director and reporting to the Executive Director of Medical Services – Statewide Mental Health Services (SMHS), you will be responsible for the statewide performance and development of CAMHS. Your leadership will be central to achieving better access, improved outcomes, and a future-focused model of care.
Key aspects of the role include:
- Leading the strategic and clinical direction of CAMHS across Tasmania.
- Providing expert advice on clinical practice, policy, legislation, and service design.
- Collaborating with senior leaders across government and community sectors.
- Championing evidence-based, safe, and innovative care models.
In addition to this leadership role, a professorial appointment aligned with the University of Tasmania may be considered, offering the opportunity to contribute to academic leadership, research, and the education of future mental health professionals.

Details of appointment:
Permanent full time, day worker position, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing from as soon as possible.

- Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time and casual vacancies.
Specialist Medical Practitioners:
Base Salary
Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $216,300 - $310,389 per annum, pro rata + 12% superannuation + access to salary packaging
Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $300,216 -$310,389 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award
Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022.
Allowances
In addition, the following allowances and benefit, calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
- Salary packaging options include a range of benefits like living expenses up to $9,010 and $2,650 in meals and entertainment every year
- Provision of a fully maintained private plated motor vehicle or motor vehicle allowance of $28,786 per annum.
- Allowance in lieu of private practice schemes 35%
- Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,974 per annum.
- Travel and relocation assistance support available up to $15,000 for eligible appointees from overseas, and up to $10,000 for appointees from interstate.
- Professional development and accelerated pathways.
- A range of leave entitlements, including study leave and Professional Development Support.
- Fitness Passport – You, and your family can access 40+ fitness facilities across Tasmania for just $13.95 per week per person, or $25.95 for a family.
