Staff Specialist Psychiatrist – Consultation Liaison

Permanent full-time or part-time, hours negotiable
Townsville University Hospital is seeking an experienced Staff Specialist Psychiatrist to join our Consultation Liaison Psychiatry team within the Mental Health Service Group. This role offers the opportunity to provide high quality psychiatric care within a well-established tertiary service, supported by strong clinical governance and a collaborative multidisciplinary team.
About the Role
The Staff Specialist Psychiatrist provides specialist psychiatric assessment and management for patients across medical, surgical and emergency departments, working closely with treating teams to support integrated, patient centred care.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing timely psychiatric consultation to inpatient medical, surgical and emergency teams
- Conducting comprehensive psychiatric and risk assessments
- Supporting multidisciplinary teams in the management of patients with complex physical and mental health needs
- Liaising with families, carers and community providers to ensure continuity of care
- Contributing to service development, quality improvement and clinical governance activities
- Participating in the after-hours on-call roster
- Working collaboratively with ATODS and Specialist Services as required
Flexible full-time or part-time arrangements are available, with scope to tailor responsibilities to clinical interests and service needs
Teaching and Research
Townsville University Hospital is the major teaching hospital for James Cook University, offering opportunities for:

Requirements
- FRANZCP, or equivalent specialist qualifications eligible for registration with AHPRA
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and high-quality clinical care
